Marten support
A little help.
A clear next step.
Getting connected, finding an answer, or reporting a rough edge. You’re in the right place.
Start with the app.
Open Help → Marten Help for guidance, then check the Activity tab for details about your connection or the last operation.
For connection issues, confirm the server address, port, connection type, and your directory permissions. If your server is on a local network, check that Marten has Local Network access in macOS System Settings.
A few common questions.
What do I need to use Marten?
Marten requires macOS 27 or later. Live directory work requires a directory server and permission to access it. Marten is a client for your existing directory; it does not include a hosted directory service or require a separate Marten account.
Which connections does Marten support?
Marten supports LDAP, StartTLS, and LDAPS, plus PingDirectory REST with OAuth 2.0. Your directory administrator can provide the host, port, base distinguished name, transport settings, and authentication details for your environment.
Why can’t I connect to my directory?
Check the host, port, transport, and authentication settings with your administrator, and confirm that you are connected to any required VPN. If your server is on the local network, check Marten’s Local Network permission in macOS System Settings. The Activity tab shows the failing operation and error; certificate errors may require your administrator to correct the server certificate or provide the appropriate certificate authority.
Can I bring in existing connections and directory files?
Marten can import Apache Directory Studio connection archives and review LDIF changes before applying them. It can export directory data as LDIF or CSV. Review the selected target and your directory permissions before applying an import, and treat exported files as potentially sensitive.
Where are my credentials and diagnostic logs stored?
Passwords, OAuth secrets, and refresh tokens are stored in macOS Keychain. Profiles, bookmarks, searches, and activity are stored locally. Open Help → Marten Help and use Copy Support Summary for version, system, and log-path details. Logs are local and can contain profile names, distinguished names, and file paths, so review them before sharing.
What should I include in a support request?
Include your Marten version and build, macOS version, connection type and transport, what you tried, and the exact error. A minimal sanitized example or relevant log excerpt can help. Never send passwords, bind credentials, OAuth secrets or tokens, private keys, production directory exports, or unredacted personal information.
Let’s work through it.
For help with Marten, a bug report, or a privacy question, contact Ryan Cruz. Include these details so it’s easier to understand what happened:
- Your Marten version and build, and your macOS version.
- The connection type and transport, without credentials.
- What you were trying to do, and the exact error you saw.
- A small, sanitized example or screenshot, if it helps.
Copy Support Summary in Marten Help gathers version, operating system, and log-path details. Review any logs before sharing: they can include profile names, distinguished names, and local file paths.
Please keep passwords, OAuth secrets and tokens, private keys, and unredacted directory data out of support messages.
Support messages are handled as described in our privacy policy.
